Are there just Macs in there? Some peeps may need to know about PC’s– not my prob, mind you; I own one of the first Mac dual-cores from ’07… and I know how to use a PC as well.

    • Yes there are only Mac’s. The decision was made before I was involved. If the pilot project is considered successful perhaps we can procure some Win Boxes. The systems we have are screaming fast and have such good resolution and design. I had a few issues and considered loading Ubuntu on them and making them appear to be a Windows environ. I was able to configure the systems with Open Office and Firefox set the guest user accounts to have home the Hollywood East home page and links to popular sites. I believe they will suit our residents needs.

A lot of residents here don’t even know how to turn on the systems but we have a team of volunteers that I have showed the Mac OS and explained the core differences. Even I had a self refresher course. I am not what I consider an expert however. I am fluent in Linux Mac and Win OS’s due to work in computer labs doing QA and localization work on software applications.

Wow your computer room is IMMACULATE. I can’t belive I didn’t even know such a thing existed! I wonder how you are keeping the room cool, I helped set up a computer room and my kid’s elementary school and we had to put a portable air conditioner for data center in the middle of the room so it looks very clustered. Thanks for this post, wish we got beautiful imacs to use as well.

    • Thanks. It has been a great team effort to put it together. It has all been planned out week to week but it gets better by the week. We have a few more small things but project is still on track.

The best thing for me is to guide residents on how to conduct searches and helping them learning new ways to search about interests they have.
